Healthy Children Start with Regular Well-Checks

At Adelante Healthcare, we believe that routine well-checks are an essential part of keeping your child healthy and happy. Well-checks are a chance for your child’s pediatrician to monitor their growth and development, address any concerns you may have, and make sure your child is up to date on immunizations and screenings.

In addition to regular well-checks, there are many things you can do to help keep your children healthy and thriving.

  • Regular exercise: The CDC recommends that children between the ages of 6-17 perform an hour or more of moderate-to-vigorous activity per day. This can be broken up into shorter periods of time throughout the day.
  • Nutritious diet: A healthy diet for children should include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. It is also important to limit unhealthy foods such as sugary drinks, processed foods, and fast food.
  • Enough sleep: Children need different amounts of sleep depending on their age. Infants need 14-17 hours of sleep per day, toddlers need 11-14 hours, preschoolers need 10-13 hours, and school-aged children need 9-12 hours.
  • Teach your children about the importance of handwashing: Handwashing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs. It is important to teach your children to wash their hands often, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after being around someone who is sick.

How to Give Your Little Ones an Extra Boost: The Scoop on Boosters and Immunizations!

Immunizations are another important component of pediatric well-checks. By ensuring that your child is current on their immunizations, you can help protect them from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Your child’s pediatrician can advise you on which immunizations are recommended based on their age and medical history.

Flu shots, Covid-19 vaccinations, boosters and even the HPV vaccination for 11–12-year old’s will be discussed during your child’s annual well check. This is the perfect time to ask the pediatrician questions you may have about the safety or need for certain vaccinations. He or she will provide you with answers and pamphlets that can reassure you about the importance and safety of these immunizations.

Sports Physicals for the Win

Sports physicals are an important part of pediatric well-checks, especially for school-aged children who are interested in playing sports. These exams can help detect any underlying health issues that may put your child at risk while playing sports. Additionally, sports physicals can help identify any musculoskeletal or biomechanical issues that may need to be addressed to prevent injury. Some schools will require student athletes to pass a physical before they can play on the school’s team, so be prepared, and schedule your child’s physical at least one month before tryouts begin.
