October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Adelante encourages you to Be Your Breast Self.

For almost 40 years, the United States has recognized National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. It’s about breast cancer education, early detection, and timely care.

We believe the in the concept of Being Your Breast Self, which means keeping up with all aspects of women’s health. This month we are encouraging women to focus on three key areas: breast cancer screenings, Well-woman checkups, and mental health.

Breast cancer screening

Knowledge is an essential element in the fight against breast cancer. It’s estimated that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime – that’s one person every 12 minutes in the U.S.

Regular screenings are recommended after age 50, although they may be encouraged sooner, depending on your risk factors. Talk to your healthcare provider to discuss risk factors and determine what is appropriate for your own health.

Early detection increases treatment options and, ultimately, the survival rate. If there are any signs of breast cancer, finding it early and treating it early may save your life.

Well-Woman check-up

Attention to women’s health, beyond regular breast cancer screenings, is extremely important. Living a healthy lifestyle may lower your risk of many adverse health outcomes, including breast cancer.

Maintain a healthy weight, limit alcohol intake, and exercise regularly—it all matters regarding your overall health and disease risk.

We encourage you to visit your health care provider for a well-woman visit (checkup) that includes preventive screenings and vaccines.

Put a focus on your mental health

Mental health is essential to women’s health, along with regular screenings for diseases such as Breast Cancer.

Whenever habits, stress, or other problems interfere with your daily life, it’s essential to recognize that your mental health matters.

When it starts to get to be too much, a trusted behavioral health provider can help.

Be proactive with your health and Be Your Breast Self this month and throughout the year. Contact your provider to discuss the appropriate screenings based on age or call us at 480-964-2273 to schedule an appointment.
