Connecting Through Nutrition: Community Resources for Healthier Living
For National Nutrition Month, we’re celebrating the theme “Food Connects Us,” which highlights how food plays a vital role in bringing us together and supporting our well-being.
During the first week, we are exploring the community resources available to help us make healthier food choices. Whether it’s accessing nutritious meals through programs like SNAP or WIC, connecting with local food banks, or learning new cooking skills, these resources are available to ensure that everyone has the tools they need to nourish themselves and their families.
Let’s take a closer look at how the following community resources can help you enjoy healthy, delicious meals and strengthen your connection to food.
Government Assistance Programs
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) helps low-income individuals and families buy nutritious food. Eligible participants can use their benefits at grocery stores to purchase fresh produce, dairy, and other healthy options. Farmer’s markets also accept SNAP, making it easier to access fresh, locally grown produce for healthier meals! Visit this website for more information.

WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) is a valuable program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children access nutritious foods and nutrition education. Through WIC, eligible families receive support to buy healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, dairy, whole grains, and baby food. WIC is more than just food assistance—it’s designed to empower families with the knowledge and resources to make healthier choices at home. With guidance on proper nutrition and healthy eating habits, WIC helps ensure that families have the support they need to thrive. You can find more information here on eligibility and how to apply.
