What happens during my first visit with a dietitian?

Your first visit is like a Get To Know Me visit. Your dietitian will ask you questions about your diet and/or past dieting experiences, work/home schedule, previous medical conditions, and much more. We learn about you so we can give more personalized recommendations that suit your needs and lifestyle 

How long will my appointment with the dietitian take?

Most appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes. The length of the appointment depends on your needs and questions that come up during your session. If you don’t take the full 30 minutes, that fine. If you and your dietitian have the time to talk for more than 30 minutes, that’s fine too! You can also request to schedule more time with your dietitian while you are planning your appointment.  

How often should I meet with my dietitian?

This varies for everyone. If you feel you do better with more support- your dietitian can meet with you more often. On the other hand, you may only want to meet once every 3 months to follow-up on your goals. You and your dietitian can decide on your meeting frequency during your appointment.  

Can I get a meal plan?

As helpful as meal plans are, they can feel a little restrictive. Your dietitian will work with you on understanding how to balance your nutrients, so you have flexibility with your diet and can still reach your goals.  

What fruits can I eat and what fruits do I need to avoid?

All fruits offer different vitamins and minerals that can benefit our bodiesGenerally, it’s important to change up the fruit in your diet to help you meet your nutrient requirements for the day. Is sugar-free soda unhealthier than regular soda?

Depending on your health goals, choosing sugar-free soda or other sugar-free drinks can be helpful in lowering total daily calories and/or blood sugar. Choosing drinks that offer vitamins and minerals without extra calories and sugar will be your best options.   

Are carbs bad? Should I avoid them?

Carbs, short for carbohydrates, are of the 3 big nutrients our bodies need daily. Carbs give you energy and offer a variety of nutrients like fiber and vitamins. Choosing mindful portions of carbs that are higher in fiber will give you the most health benefits.

What occurs during our consult?

During your consultation you will have a discussion with the Behavioral Health Consultant on ways to improve your physical and mental health. This can be done through identifying any barriers to achieving whole health and solutions to overcome them.

How long are the consults?

Consultations with a Behavioral Health Consultant can range anywhere from 10-30 minutes.

How often can I meet with the Behavioral Health Consultant?

You can meet with the Behavioral Health Consultant on multiple occasions dependent upon your needs. These appointments are not to be confused with therapy sessions.

Is the Behavioral Health Consultant my therapist or case manager?

The Behavioral Health Consultant does not take the place of a mental health therapist or case manager. The Behavioral Health Consultant can assist a patient with their presenting mental and behavioral health needs utilizing solution-focused treatment and brief interventions.

Can I request to speak to a Behavioral Health Consultant?

Upon your appointment, you can request to meet with a Behavioral Health Consultant. You can notify the medical assistant or your provider of this request.

Is this confidential?

Your visits are confidential and HIPAA compliant. As an integrated care team, information about your plan of care, follow-ups, or points of concern are shared with your medical professionals.
