Did you know cooking with your little one can help them learn new skills and can encourage them to try new foods.
Below you will find some easy kid friendly snack ideas that use ingredients you can get with your WIC benefits:
Monkey Banana Pops
What you will need:
½ cup of whole grain cereal of your choice
2 bananas
4 wooden sticks
½ cup of low-fat yogurt
Let’s make it:
- Pour the cereal into a bowl
- Cut each banana in half and place a wooden stick in each one
- Dip the banana in yogurt
- Roll the banana in the cereal and serve
*can place it in the freezer for a cool snack
Groovy Smoothie
What you will need:
1 cup of yogurt
½ cup of 100% pineapple juice
½ cup of 100% orange juice
1 banana or other fruit of choice
2 cups of fresh spinach
2 cups of ice
Let’s make it:
- Place yogurt, juices, spinach, banana or other fruit of choice, and ice into blender
- Cover and blend until smooth
- Serve immediately
*can make popsicles from smoothie
Yummy for My Tummy Quesadilla
What you will need:
4 teaspoons of peanut butter
2 whole wheat flour tortillas
1 banana, sliced
2 strawberries, sliced
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Cooking Spray
- Spread 2 teaspoons of peanut butter evenly over each tortilla
- Arrange the banana and strawberry slices on half of each tortilla
- Fold in half pressing gently
- Coat large frying pan with cooking spray. Heat to medium-high.
- Cook one quesadilla at a time until each side is golden brown, about 2 minutes per side
- Cut each quesadilla into halves and serve.
